WayPoint Help

Getting started

What is WayPoint?

WayPoint is a planner for high school and college students. It brings your Schoology assignments, your calendar and your class notes into one place. Then, when you ask, it uses Apple Intelligence on your device to tell you what to focus on today, how to tackle an assignment, and what to study for a test.

WayPoint guides you. It doesn't do the work for you.

What do I need?

How do I set it up?

Setup takes about 10 minutes, and the more you add, the better your plans get. 1. Connect Schoology so your assignments and due dates come in (see "Connect Schoology"). 2. Add your classes. Type each class you take. Classes don't import from Schoology, so this step matters. 3. Add units (optional). Break a class into units such as "Unit 3: Cell Biology" so study guides know what a test covers. 4. Add your material. Scan handouts, import slides and PDFs, or type notes, and file them under a class or unit. Put whole textbooks and long readings in your Library. 5. Show your calendar. Tap Allow calendar access on Today so WayPoint can see your schedule and find time to study.

Can I skip setup?

Yes. Every step is optional and you can come back to it any time from Settings.

Connect Schoology

How do I connect Schoology?

  1. Sign in to Schoology in a web browser.
  2. Click your name at the top right, then choose Settings.
  3. On the Account Settings tab, find Share Your Schoology Calendar and click Enable.
  4. Copy the link under Use this iCal link. It starts with webcal://.
  5. In WayPoint, open Settings, then Schoology, paste the link, and tap Connect.

WayPoint brings in your assignments and tests right away. After that it checks for changes whenever you open Today, or when you pull down to refresh.

Look for Share Your Schoology Calendar on the Account Settings page. Some schools turn calendar sharing off, and the Schoology phone app may not show the option. Try Schoology in a web browser on a computer. If you still can't find it, ask your teacher or school's tech support whether calendar sharing is enabled. Don't click Disable unless you want to turn the link off. You can still use WayPoint without Schoology by adding assignments yourself with the Add button.

Your link works like a private key to your assignment list, so don't share it. WayPoint stores it only in your device's Keychain, never in plain files, and never sends it anywhere except to Schoology itself. To disconnect, open Settings, then Schoology, then Remove.

Some assignments are missing, or there are things I don't want.

Open Settings, then Schoology, to change the import filters: - Assignments and tests (on by default). - School events and announcements (off by default). - Only items that match one of my classes. - Due within 2, 4 or 8 weeks, or any time. - Skip items whose title contains: add words or phrases, such as "Field trip", to leave those items out.

Filtered items are hidden, never deleted. Use See what was filtered out (in Settings, then Schoology) to bring one back.

I hid an assignment by mistake.

Open Settings, then Schoology, then Hidden items, and tap Restore.

Why is an assignment in the wrong class?

WayPoint matches Schoology items to your classes by name. Open the assignment and pick the right class. Your choice sticks, even after the next sync. Adding meeting times to your classes helps matching too.

Does WayPoint work with Canvas, Google Classroom or other systems?

Not yet. Today WayPoint reads Schoology calendar links. For other systems, add assignments with the Add button. Tell us which system you use at support@waypointplanner.app, since it shapes what comes next.

Does WayPoint change anything in Schoology?

No. WayPoint only reads your calendar feed. It can't submit work, change grades or post anything.

Today and your calendar

What's on Today?

Your schedule for the day, what's due soon, your study blocks, and, on supported devices, a day overview that suggests what to focus on first.

How do I show my calendar?

On Today, tap Allow calendar access. If you tapped Not now or Don't Allow earlier, open your device's Settings, then Privacy and Security, then Calendars, and turn on WayPoint. On a Mac, use System Settings, then Privacy and Security, then Calendars.

Can I choose which calendars WayPoint shows?

Yes. Open Settings, then Calendars, and turn calendars on or off.

What's a study block?

A study block is time you set aside to work on an assignment. WayPoint adds it to a calendar named WayPoint, so it shows up in Apple Calendar and anywhere that calendar syncs.

How do reminders work?

On an assignment's plan, tap Remind me on a step. WayPoint adds it to a WayPoint list in Reminders and asks for Reminders access the first time. Finishing the assignment marks those reminders done.

Why does it say "Due today" and not "Overdue"?

Items with a date but no time count as due at the end of that day.

Plans and study guides

What can WayPoint make for me?

Which devices make plans and study guides?

They run on your device with Apple Intelligence, which needs version 27 or later and one of these: - iPhone: iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max, or any iPhone 16 or later. - iPad: iPad mini (A17 Pro), or any iPad with an M1 chip or later. - Mac: any Mac with Apple silicon (M1 or later), including MacBook Neo.

Apple Intelligence also has to be turned on in Settings, then Apple Intelligence and Siri, and the model has to finish downloading. On other devices WayPoint works fully as a planner, and the plan and study guide buttons don't appear.

I don't see the button to make a plan or study guide.

Check that your device is on the list above, that it's updated to version 27 or later, and that Apple Intelligence is turned on. Right after you turn it on, the model can take a while to download. Try again later, preferably on Wi-Fi and plugged in.

My study guide is thin or misses a topic.

Study guides use only what you've added. Add your notes, slides or the reading for that unit, file them under the right class and unit, and make the guide again. Linking a Library reading to the test, with chapter or page numbers, helps the most.

Can I trust what it says?

Use it as a starting point, not the final word. On-device AI can misread or leave things out. Always check plans and guides against your assignment instructions and class materials.

Can WayPoint write my essay or do my homework?

No, and that's on purpose. WayPoint helps you plan and study. You still do the thinking and the writing. Follow your teachers' rules about AI tools.

Does my work get sent to an AI company?

No. Plans and study guides are made on your device. Your notes and assignments are never sent to a cloud AI service.

Notes, scans and your Library

How do I add notes?

Tap Add. You can scan pages with the camera (iPhone and iPad), import photos, PDFs, slides and files, or type a note. You review the text before it's saved, then file it under a class and unit.

What's the difference between Notes and the Library?

What files can I import?

PDFs, images (photos and scans) and plain text files. Word, PowerPoint and Excel files aren't read directly: export them as PDF first (in Word or PowerPoint, choose File, then Export or Save as PDF), and slide decks exported as PDF work well. Scanned books are read with on-device text recognition.

The text from my scan is wrong.

Text recognition does best with flat, well-lit pages and printed text. Handwriting is harder. Fix the text on the review screen before saving, or retake the scan.

What's the Glossary, and what does Look up do?

The Glossary keeps terms for your classes. Look up fetches a short Wikipedia summary for a term, and uses your notes to pick the right meaning. That lookup is the only time WayPoint sends anything to Wikipedia, and it happens only when you tap it.

Sync, storage and backup

How do I use WayPoint on more than one device?

Sign in to the same Apple Account on each device with iCloud and iCloud Drive turned on. WayPoint syncs your classes, notes, plans and Library through your own private iCloud. Plans can even be made on whichever of your devices supports Apple Intelligence and show up on the others.

Sync isn't working.

Why do some Library files show a download icon?

To save space, big Library files stay in iCloud until you open them. Tap to download. You can see and manage what's stored on the device in Settings, then Storage.

How do I back up my data?

Turn on iCloud for WayPoint and keep your device's normal backups on. WayPoint has no server copy of your data, so if a device is lost without iCloud or a backup, its WayPoint data is lost too. An export option is coming.

How do I delete everything?

Delete the app to remove its data from that device. To remove synced data, open Settings, then your name, then iCloud, then Manage Storage, then WayPoint, and delete its data.

Privacy

What leaves my device?

Only two things: the requests to your Schoology link to bring in assignments, and Wikipedia lookups when you tap Look up. Everything else stays on your device and in your own iCloud. There are no accounts, ads or analytics. The full policy is at waypointplanner.app/privacy.

Can my parents or school see my WayPoint?

No. WayPoint has no accounts and no server, so nobody can see your WayPoint data unless they have your device or your Apple Account. It's yours.

Can you, the developer, see my notes?

No. I never receive your notes, assignments, plans or files.

Free trial and purchase

How much does WayPoint cost?

WayPoint is free to download with a 14-day free trial of everything. After that, a one-time WayPoint Unlock keeps all the features. It's not a subscription.

What happens when the trial ends?

You can still open and read everything you've added. Making new plans and study guides, adding notes and syncing Schoology need the Unlock.

Do I have to pay again on my iPad or Mac?

No. One purchase covers every iPhone, iPad and Mac signed in to the same Apple Account, and you can share it with your Family Sharing group.

I bought it, but WayPoint still says Unlock.

Open Settings, then Purchase, then Restore Purchases. Make sure you're signed in to the same Apple Account you bought it with.

My parent has to approve purchases.

If Ask to Buy is on, Apple sends the request to your parent or guardian. Once they approve, the unlock appears automatically.

How do I get a refund?

Refunds are handled by Apple. Go to reportaproblem.apple.com and choose WayPoint.

Troubleshooting

WayPoint isn't showing new Schoology assignments.

Pull down on Today to refresh. Check Settings, then Schoology, for the last sync time and any error. Assignments might also be hidden by your filters. Use See what was filtered out. If the link stopped working, your school may have reset it: copy a new one from Schoology and use Replace link.

The app asked for calendar access and I said no.

Open your device's Settings, then Privacy and Security, then Calendars (or Reminders), and turn on WayPoint.

Something else is wrong.

Update to the latest version of WayPoint and your operating system, then restart the app. If it still happens, email support@waypointplanner.app with your device, your system version, the WayPoint version (Settings, then About) and the steps that cause it. A screenshot helps.
